Men To Watch 2024 honoree Cloyd Garth, Jr.

When it comes to unlocking potential and driving transformation, few names stand out like

Cloyd Garth, Jr. As a Chief Problem Solver and Leadership Development Enthusiast, Cloyd has dedicated his life to equipping individuals, teams, and organizations with the tools to turn obstacles into opportunities. His work goes beyond theory—he lives it, and so do the leaders and communities he serves.

At the heart of his mission is The Garth Group LLC, a leadership incubator founded to cultivate the growth of aspiring, emerging, and established leaders. The Garth Group embodies Cloyd’s philosophy that leadership is not about titles—it’s about action, growth, and the ability to navigate uncertainty with clarity and confidence. With a focus on leadership, culture, and climate, his programs challenge leaders to shift from managers to visionaries, from reactive to proactive, and from overwhelmed to unstoppable.

Cloyd’s journey is one of perseverance, advocacy, and transformation. As a child, he faced early academic challenges when placed in Special Education classes due to arbitrarily perceived limitations. But thanks to the advocacy of his mother—a dedicated educator who believed in his potential—Cloyd was moved to a self-paced classroom where he soared three instructional levels ahead in one year. This pivotal experience taught him the power of belief, alignment, and the right environment for growth. It’s a lesson that underpins his work today with students, educators, and leaders seeking to reach their full potential.

As Superintendent of the Hazlehurst City School District, Cloyd has demonstrated that

transformation isn’t theoretical—it’s achievable. He has successfully led turnarounds at both the school and district levels, moving institutions from under state control to earning state-issued classifications of high performance. His ability to frame challenges as opportunities and construct practical bridges to sustainable solutions is one of his signature traits. Those who work with him soon learn that excellence isn’t accidental—it’s intentional, and it can be achieved with the right mindset, strategy, and support.

At the core of his leadership philosophy is the CEO Mindset—the belief that leaders at every

level must see themselves as the visionary architects of their organizations. Through his

signature programs, such as the Three-Month Leadership Accelerator, Six-Month Turnaround

Intensive, and Year-Long Legacy Mastery, Cloyd equips leaders to move from task-oriented

managers to strategic visionaries. These programs offer more than professional development; they provide transformational experiences. Leaders walk away with the clarity, perspective, and confidence to lead with purpose and precision.

Beyond his formal roles, Cloyd is an award-winning public speaker and a sought-after

professional development facilitator specializing in leadership, culture, and climate. His ability to break down complex concepts and present them as simple, practical, and achievable actions is a hallmark of his work. His audiences consistently leave inspired, equipped, and ready to implement what they’ve learned.

Cloyd’s academic foundation is as impressive as his impact. He holds a B.S. in History from

Millsaps College, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Mississippi,

and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the same institution. He has also

completed all doctoral coursework in Educational Leadership, positioning him as a subject-

matter expert in leadership development and organizational transformation.

But perhaps the most compelling part of Cloyd’s story is his unwavering belief that success is

not an accident—it’s a birthright. His life’s work is guided by three principles:

• Problems are opportunities in disguise.

• Leadership is rooted in servitude.

• Success is your birthright.

Today, Cloyd Garth, Jr. continues to change lives and redefine leadership from his home base in Brandon, Mississippi, where he finds joy in the daily growth of his family, his community, and the leaders he serves. He is supported by his wife, Reena, and his daughter, Ayana, who inspire him to keep striving for excellence. Whether leading a district, developing programs through The Garth Group, or delivering keynote speeches, his message is clear: Growth is possible. Change is achievable. And leadership is within your reach.
