Men To Watch 2025 honoree John Smalls

John Smalls is the Director of Information Management and Security at The Geneva Foundation, bringing over two decades of leadership in information technology, cybersecurity, and data governance. With a career marked by technical excellence and strategic insight, John has successfully led and managed departments comprising more than 150 IT professionals. His expertise spans information assurance, project management, and cybersecurity operations, cultivated through global and domestic assignments in high-tempo Department of Defense environments.

A distinguished U.S. Army veteran, John served honorably for over 22 years, with deployments supporting Operation Joint Guard, Operation Joint Endeavor, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His military background instilled a mission-first mindset and operational discipline that he continues to apply in his civilian leadership roles.

John holds a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity and a Bachelor’s degree in Technology Management from Excelsior University. He is also credentialed with multiple certifications in IT security, leadership, and training. Beyond his professional endeavors, John is dedicated to community service and enjoys mentoring youth as a volunteer football coach.
