Dr. Deborah L. Wortham is a nationally recognized educational leader, executive coach,
and consultant with over three decades of proven success guiding superintendents,
boards of education, and school leadership teams in strengthening system coherence,
governance, and instructional excellence. As Chief Executive Officer of Wortham
Educational Enterprises, LLC, she partners with school systems to design and deliver
leadership development, superintendent search support, and executive coaching
strategies that elevate performance and culture.
A transformational superintendent, Dr. Wortham has led multiple districts—Roosevelt
Union Free School District (NY), East Ramapo Central School District (NY), the
School District of the City of York (PA), and Steelton-Highspire School District
(PA)—moving each from State Takeover to Good Standing. Her leadership has
consistently produced measurable gains in student achievement, organizational trust,
and community engagement through shared vision, strategic planning, and capacity-
building.
As a certified Executive Coach through the University of Pennsylvania’s GroupWorks
program, Dr. Wortham supports superintendents, cabinet members, principals, and
boards of education in building leadership efficacy, aligning governance, and
implementing sustainable systems of improvement. She also serves as an Executive
Coach with the Leading Now Network, providing guidance and professional support
to school system executives nationwide.
Dr. Wortham holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern
University, where she received Dissertation of the Year for her research on the
Philosophy of Efficacy. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Reading from Morgan
State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the
University of Wisconsin–Madison.
An accomplished author and thought leader, Dr. Wortham is the Best-Selling Co-
Author of STEM Century: It Takes a Village to Raise a 21st-Century Graduate and
author of Setting the Atmosphere for Leaders and Learners (2024), featured in The
School Administrator magazine. She also served as a Dissertation Chair for Nova
Southeastern University, mentoring doctoral candidates in leadership and organizational
change.

and the NAACP. She and her husband, Rev. Chester H. Wortham, Jr., co-facilitate
marriage and leadership development seminars nationally and abroad.
