Sonya Brown is a passionate advocate for equity, leadership development, and inclusive talent strategies. With over two decades of experience in human resources across corporate, startup, and nonprofit sectors, she has built a career around one core belief: everyone deserves a seat at the table, not just as participants, but as decision-makers shaping the future.
Sonya currently serves as Director of Talent Management at Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders USA, where she leads workforce strategy, succession planning, and organizational design for a global humanitarian organization operating across 70+ countries.
Her commitment to service began immediately after college, when she entered the nonprofit sector managing workforce and economic development programs for underserved communities. That early calling never left her. It has shaped every role she's held since, whether in corporate boardrooms or community spaces.
What drives Sonya is a deep belief in ethical leadership, equity, and transformative change. She sees the future of HR and talent not as a back-office function, but as the engine of organizational culture: the force that determines who gets developed, who gets heard, and who gets to lead. Her vision is a world where talent systems are designed with intention, to empower, uplift, and create access for those who have historically been overlooked.
Sonya holds an MBA in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Capella University and a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia. She completed the University of South Florida Muma College of Business program, earning certificates in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Inclusive & Ethical Leadership. She is also a recognized voice in the HR community.
When she isn't building systems that help people thrive, Sonya can be found enjoying time with her family, exploring the world through travel, or playing an exhilarating round of poker. And when she's looking for a downshift in pace, you can find her watching the NY Giants and Las Vegas Aces or with a good book from her extensive collection.
